ss1 examination

Welcome to your PHYSICS PRACTICAL QUESTION ON HOOKE’S LAW (SS1)1st term

Question :

A spring whose length is 11cm was stretched by the following masses: 50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200 g, and 250 g, given the following new lengths respectively as: 12.1cm, 13.2cm, 14.3cm, 15.4cm, 16.5cm.

1. Tabulate your results under the headings: Mass (g), Force (N), Length (cm), Extension (cm).

2. Convert each mass to force (F = mg) using g = 10 m/s². {Note: You must convert mass from g to kg if you are looking for Force}

3. Compute the extension (e = ∆L).

4. Plot a graph of Force (N) on the vertical axis against Extension (cm) on the horizontal axis.

5. From your graph determine the spring constant (k).
